Chess Tournament

Basic rules for the MMI chess tournament (according to swiss format)

1.Number of Rounds:
Players do not face all other competitors. The tournament has a fixed number of rounds (typically 5-11).

2.Pairing System:
Players are paired based on their score. Those with similar scores are paired against each other.

3.No Rematches:
Players do not face the same opponent twice during the tournament.

4.Scoring:
Players receive 1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.

5.Bye Rounds:
If there is an odd number of players, one player will receive a "bye" and automatically gets 1 point for that round (but no game is played).

6.Initial Pairing:
In the first round, players are paired randomly or according to their pre-tournament rankings or ratings.

7.Subsequent Pairing:
After each round, players are ranked based on their cumulative score, and then paired with players close to them in the standings.

8.Tiebreaks:
In case of ties, tiebreak methods like Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, or others may be used to rank players with the same score.

9.Winning the Tournament:
The players with the highest cumulative scores at the end of the rounds are ranked, and the top 3 players are declared as the first, second, and third-place winners

Jallosh, derived from the Marathi word meaning ‘Celebration’, is an annual community gathering organized by Marathi Mandal Ireland. This event brings together the Marathi community of Indian origin residing in Ireland to celebrate their rich cultural heritage.

Jallosh aims to foster a sense of community and cultural pride among Marathi-speaking individuals by showcasing a variety of cultural performances and activities. The event also serves as a platform for cultural exchange, welcoming non-Marathi individuals to experience and appreciate Marathi traditions.

This year, alongside our traditional Ganeshotsav celebrations, we are introducing a special theme to honor and celebrate our state of Maharashtra. We will embrace a ‘Gramin’ style of celebration to express our love, respect, and gratitude for Maharashtra's villages, where many of us have deep-rooted connections. These villages, with their rich and vibrant culture, have shaped who we are today. It’s crucial that we acknowledge and pay tribute to our ancestral villages, ensuring they continue to support future generations while adapting to modern ways of living.
